A fresh place to start

Today offers a Medium puzzle for the day. Choose from Trivial through Nightmare when you want a different challenge. Try X Sudoku to add both long diagonals to the usual rules.

Help you can dial back

Play with no assistance, use your own pencil marks, or ask for legal candidates and conflict checks. Singles highlighting is off by default, leaving the deductions to you.

See why a move works

Hints explain naked and hidden singles. Watch the solver work at a comfortable speed, follow its moves in the activity log, or solve instantly from the original clues.

Learn to look before you guess

Sudoku uses logic, not arithmetic. Start with a row, column or box that already has several digits. Write down what is missing, then check where those digits could go. A cell with one remaining possibility is a naked single; a digit with only one possible home in a group is a hidden single.

These two ideas can unlock a surprising amount of a puzzle. Our guide explains the difference with small worked examples.
